My Eyes Are Going Crazy, I Am Trying to See Something but There’s Nothing Here
SSSSII: Kalarand / with Sven Sosnitski / 2014
ISFAG, Tallinn, Estonia
participatory sound installation, 6 channel audio, 9 tape decks, 9 compositions on cassette tapes - 90min each
Bernie Krause, musician and bioacoustician, redefined the soundscape elements in terms of their three main sources, geophony, biophony, and anthrophony. We took that as a base model for field recording while mapping the bay area called Kalarand near the art space ISFAG. By making three compositions for every layer corresponding to the order of division of a soundscape, the viewer is presented with an experimental participatory sound installation where the total reformulated soundscape is a collective act.
SSSS is a collaboration project between artist Sten Saarits and composer Sven Sosnitski. The duo work with audio-visual space installations. The first collaboration project was an installation piece entitled „SSSSI: TheGreat.wav“ or "The Great Wave" which is represented graphically when writing down both of their initials together.
